Fine Arts
Education in the arts is an integral part of the development of each human being. Those who have studied learning processes throughout the ages, beginning with Plato, have emphasized the importance of the arts in the education process.
Arts education refers to education in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. The arts cannot be learned through occasional or random exposure any more than math or science can. Education and engagement in the fine arts are an essential part of the school curriculum and an important component in the educational program of every student in Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The fine arts also provide learners with non-academic benefits such as promoting self-esteem, motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression, as well as social harmony and appreciation of diversity.
Music
Students in 3- 8th Grade may participate in Band. Each year, there is a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. Our Lady of Mount Carmel offers the following musical opportunities to our students:
Art
Weekly art program. Students are provided new stimulating art activities that teach basic art concepts and skills that meet the curricular needs of students throughout their developmental stages.
Beginning in Kindergarten, children will be taught the principals and elements of design (Line, shape, color, texture, form, value, pattern, balance, composition, perspective and proportion.) The curriculum is designed so that each art concept is built upon another thus providing a strong foundation for all future skills.
Students will be introduced to and will explore a wide variety of art forms and media. After school art club is offered to all students 4-8th grades.
